Welcome!
Do you want to help open all of life's possibilities for your child? Of course you do! Reading is an important skill a child must learn in order to thrive in their lifetime, but one many struggle with not by any fault of their own. A strong foundation in reading skills can change the course of a child's life. Reading Matters can help them begin or continue that journey by providing a safe and positive environment to expand their knowledge. The best time to start helping your child is today. Parents are often told that their child will grow out of reading difficulties. Unfortunately, this is not true. No matter where your child is on their path to literacy, Reading Matters can help.
Reading Matters provides professional, private reading intervention services with an experienced, Credentialed Reading Specialist that produces results efficiently and effectively for all learners including students previously identified with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, children with autism or behavior challenges.
Assessment
A complimentary initial consultation is offered to all new inquiries and if it is decided to be a good fit, a contract is signed and a more formal assessment follows during the next session. Then, using the diagnostic assessment as a guide, a course of study will be designed which will improve their reading. Services are individualized for each student based on their needs, whether they may be emerging readers or high school students. Prior assessments and reports are welcomed for review.
Intervention
Once instruction begins, consistent monitoring of skills are incorporated into each lesson. The five foundations of reading instruction are the groundwork for student lessons: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. Laura has training in multi-sensory instructional programs which she incorporates to assist students.
Communication with all educators in the child's life is offered with the guardians' permission.
Typically students attend intervention sessions twice a week for a minimum of eight weeks, although a semester is ideal. There is no set program and each child is unique, therefore no long term contract is signed. Our contracts run on a month to month commitment.
